eight ruby sceptre

since i was quite young ive always doodled quite unconsciously, many people who saw these doodles said they would make good tattoo designs, in the mid eightys i was reading a travel book on scotland and i came across pictures of the pictish stones, the tiny hairs on the back of my neck stood up as i seemed to recognise a similarity, almost as if it was the same handwriting even though they are not the same. i was aware that my earliest recorded ancestor was a burgess of inverness in 1750 from a familly tree done by a great aunt. this totally blew me away, i started thinking of genetic memorys and such, the tattoo comments by many people seemed to make sense as the picts were named by the romans the pictured people for adorning there bodys with designs.
since that time my mind has been filled with mavel and mystery. this quote by australian aboriginal activist kath walker applies to me also, "let no one say the past is dead. the past is all about us and with in. haunted by tribal memories, i know this little now, this accidental present is not the all of me, whose long making is so much of the past".. this is my inspiration.
